Torrevieja isn't like anywhere else in the province, and that completely changes how a local business website should be built.
It has around 85,000 registered residents, and considerably more in summer. And here's the part that matters most for your website: a huge share of that population doesn't search in Spanish. English, Swedish, Norwegian, Belgian, German, Russian. People living here all year or half the year, with money, hiring local services constantly.
We work with three businesses in Torrevieja. Here's what we've learned.
Language isn't a detail, it's the main factor
In Alicante city a Spanish-only website works reasonably well. In Torrevieja it leaves you invisible to half the town.
Think about it from the other side. An English woman who has lived in La Mata for eight years needs a plumber. She doesn't type "fontanero Torrevieja". She types "plumber Torrevieja". And what comes up are the three or four businesses with an English website, which tend to be far fewer than those with a Spanish one.
That search has much less competition and a customer who usually pays without arguing. It's the clearest opportunity in town and it's still half empty.
How to do it properly
Be careful here, because most people get this wrong and it does nothing:
- —An automatic translator isn't enough. That widget swapping the text in the browser creates no new pages. Google has nothing to index and you still don't appear for "plumber Torrevieja".
- —Each language needs its own address:
yoursite.es/serviciosandyoursite.es/en/services. - —And both versions must point at each other with the
hreflangtag, in both directions, plus anx-default. If only one points, Google gets confused and sometimes serves the wrong version. - —Name, address and phone identical across every language.
To work out which languages pay off, look at two things: what language your existing reviews are written in, and where your highest-spending customers come from.
Seasonality is planned backwards from what you'd think
Summer multiplies the population, but it also multiplies the competition fighting for the same searches. And here's the detail that catches people out: SEO takes months to take effect.
Start working on your site in June because you want to capture the season and you're already late. The season is prepared in January or February.
What does work in summer is the Google Business Profile listing, which reacts within days: seasonal opening hours, new photos, posts. That you can move on the fly.
And for businesses working all year (renovations, cleaning, accountancy, health), the quiet season is exactly when the field is clearest.
Three things specific to here
The neighbourhood matters. Torrevieja is large and spread out. La Mata, Los Balcones, Aguas Nuevas, El Chaparral, Punta Prima. People search by their area: "locksmith Los Balcones". Mention the real neighbourhoods you work in and you appear in searches your competition never touches.
Your real radius is bigger than the town. Orihuela Costa, Guardamar, Pilar de la Horadada, San Miguel de Salinas, Rojales. If you serve those areas, say so by name. Each is a separate search.
Reviews carry more weight here than elsewhere. In a town with a large foreign population, where traditional word of mouth doesn't work the same way, people lean heavily on Google reviews. A business with 40 reviews at 4.7 beats a better one with 6 reviews.
Three real cases from Torrevieja
WeClean. Cleaning company. We built their site from scratch about ten months ago. In under a year it has accumulated over 7,000 impressions on Google and ranks for key searches like "cleaning company in Torrevieja", with SEO still in its growth phase.
TaxiTime Torrevieja. Two years running. Today it generates over 415,000 annual impressions, average position 4 and a 2.2% CTR. It dominates "taxi Torrevieja", one of the highest-volume searches in town.
Taxi Torrevieja Transfer. Just launched. A licensed driver specialising in transfers to Alicante-Elche airport, with fixed fares and three-step booking.
All three are in our case studies, with their sites linked so you can look inside.
Where to start if you have a business here
In this order, and the order matters:
- —A complete, verified Google Business Profile. It's free, it has the biggest impact and it's what most people leave half-done. Correct category, opening hours, photos and a steady flow of reviews. Full guide here.
- —A fast site that looks right on a phone. Nearly all of these searches happen on mobile. Take more than three seconds to load and you lose people before they see you. Why it happens and how it's fixed.
- —One page per service, with Torrevieja and your neighbourhood mentioned naturally.
- —The English version, if your customers call for it. They usually do.
- —Ask for reviews without embarrassment. Every happy customer, as you finish. It's the cheapest thing you can do and the highest returning.

Frequently asked questions
Is a website worth it if word of mouth works for me? Word of mouth brings you the same customers. The website brings the one who has just arrived in Torrevieja and knows nobody, and in this town that's a great many people every year.
How long until I appear? The Google listing, days or weeks. Ranking the website for competitive searches, three to six months. WeClean is ten months in and still climbing.
English only, or other languages too? English first, always. Then look at your reviews and your actual customers. In some parts of Torrevieja, Swedish or Norwegian throw up surprises because nobody works them.
Do I need an agency based in Torrevieja? It doesn't need to be on the same street, but it does need to know the area. We live in Almoradí and Guadassuar, and half our clients are in this district. We know which neighbourhoods we're talking about.
In short
Torrevieja rewards two things almost nobody does: having your site in English too, and talking about the actual neighbourhoods. Add a properly set-up Google listing and reviews, and you're already ahead of most.
